About UniLang

A school for the real world learner

UniLang is for real people with real needs: a course to finish, a career to build, or new people to meet from other cultures.

Our mission

We give adults the English they need for real life. For work, for study, for travel, and for talking with people from other cultures. That means English for real situations: the 9am meeting, the email after lunch, the friendly chat at dinner, the job interview that could change your year.

Our philosophy

We teach the way people really learn: through conversation and real tasks that match the work, study, and life you actually have. Feedback is honest and clear. No boring drills, no chanting together, no pretending the language is easier than it is.

What we stand for

UniLang is part of the General Workers’ Union network. We take English seriously. Our students learn in person or online, together with people from all over the world.

General English · A1 – C2

General English

For people building or rebuilding their English from scratch.

A complete CEFR-aligned course combining speaking, listening, reading, and writing in everyday and professional contexts. Focused mixed-purpose groups, ongoing assessment, end-of-course certificate.

PILLAR 01

Communicative & task-based

Every lesson is built around something you actually want to do in English: telling a story, making a new friend, ordering the meal you want, giving your opinion, holding a conversation you care about. Grammar shows up where it’s needed, not as a curriculum to grind through. Vocabulary is picked up in context, not memorised from a list.

PILLAR 02

Needs-based course design

We don’t start until we know what you need. A quick placement test shows us your level. A short chat tells us your goals. Then we build the course around what you want to say and do in English.

PILLAR 03

CEFR-aligned, structured progression

Every course follows the Common European Framework (A1 to C2). You always know your current level, your next level, and what you need to show to get there. Clear, open, and independently checked.

PILLAR 04

Ongoing assessment & feedback

Assessment isn’t a final exam. It’s a constant pulse-check. Mid-course tutorials, written feedback on production tasks, and informal progress reviews calibrated to your goals. By the end, you have evidence of progress, not just a certificate.

PILLAR 05

A culture of professional development

UniLang teachers are committed practitioners who treat continuing professional development as part of the job, not an extra. We support active CPD, regular peer observation, and a documented in-house standard for lesson planning, feedback, and learner support, so the teaching keeps getting better.

Where possible, we teach from authentic sources: real reports, real podcasts, real essays, real conversations. Then we measure the outcome by what you can do, not by what you can recite. About

Savannah Davis leads the academic programme at UniLang. She is responsible for academic structures, programme design, teacher mentoring and quality assurance: the academic spine of everything we do.

She is also an internationally recognised conference speaker, teacher trainer, and published academic writer. Her work sits at the intersections of teaching, leadership, and research. Her research interests include psycholinguistics, social sustainability, digital literacies, and the integration of generative AI in language teaching.

About

Kirsten Cardona is UniLang’s Assistant Director, and the first person most of our students meet. She is the human front door of the school: the one who answers the email, picks up the phone, and walks a new student through their first week. If Savannah is the mind of the school, Kirsten is the heart.

Her teaching work focuses on inclusive classrooms, fairness for learners, and good long-term practice. She writes about these ideas with Savannah Davis. Every day at UniLang, this shows up as honest support for teachers and a strong belief in what good language teaching should be: clear, fair, and respectful of the learner in front of her.

Valletta as a learning environment

Valletta is compact enough to walk end-to-end in twenty minutes, and packed with cafés, galleries, harbour views, and the everyday life of a working capital. It’s the kind of place where you can study in the morning, have a long lunch by the sea, wander a UNESCO World Heritage site in the afternoon, and practise your English with the person behind the counter. A city that lives, not just a postcard.

Mediterranean climate, English as an official language, EU member state, well connected by air to every European capital, time zone friendly to most of Europe and parts of Africa and the Middle East. A city to study in, with a country worth exploring on the doorstep.

About Malta, more broadly

Malta is one of the smallest countries in the EU and one of the only fully English-speaking ones. That makes it unusual: you can immerse in English outside the classroom from your first day, while living somewhere with well-connected transport, a rich cultural life, and the kind of everyday atmosphere that makes practising the language easy.

Where we are

Valletta city centre

A few minutes’ walk from the main bus terminus, the parliament building, and the central business district. Easy to reach from anywhere on the island.

In Malta

An island worth lingering on

Most major bus routes terminate at Valletta. From Malta International Airport: ~25 minutes by direct bus or taxi. Sliema and St Julians: ~15 minutes by bus or ferry. After class, the rest of the island is a short ride away: limestone fishing villages, hidden swimming coves, prehistoric temples older than the pyramids, the medieval citadel of Mdina, the Three Cities across the Grand Harbour, and a Mediterranean coast that is, conveniently, swimming temperature for most of the year.

If you can’t come to Malta

Most courses are also available online via small live classes. Same teachers, same materials, same progression. Just delivered remotely. Especially common for one-to-one and corporate clients.
